Privacy Policy

Effective May 1, 2026

This is the privacy policy for the Vellerune desktop application and the vellerune.com website. We've kept it short because there's not much to say.

The short version

What the desktop app sends, exactly

Update check (Windows / Linux only)

Once a week, the app sends: app version, operating system, architecture. It receives the latest available version number. A notification is shown only if an update exists. No user-identifying data.

License check (Windows / Linux only)

Once every 15 days after activation, the app sends: license key, opaque instance ID to a license validation server. This confirms your license is still in good standing. No user-identifying data.

That's it

There is no telemetry SDK, no analytics, no crash reporter, no fonts or assets pulled from a CDN at runtime, no usage tracking, no A/B testing.

Your data on disk

Each world is a single file — a standard SQLite database with a .vellerune extension. App settings (your goal targets, theme, snapshot configuration, and the list of your worlds) live in a separate SQLite file in the operating system's standard application-data location for your platform. World files live under your Documents folder on Windows and Linux, and inside the app's sandboxed container on the Mac App Store build. Both files are openable with any SQLite tool, and the app provides Backup and Import actions for moving worlds around. Your work is yours.

iCloud sync (macOS only, optional)

The macOS build can opt in to iCloud sync. This is implemented as a sandbox folder that macOS itself synchronizes through your iCloud account — Vellerune does not call any iCloud or Apple APIs directly. If you don't enable it, nothing leaves your machine.

This website

vellerune.com is a static site. It uses no third-party analytics, no tracking pixels, and no advertising. The only personal data it processes is the email address you submit to the launch-notification form or to the contact form.

Email signup

Submitted email addresses are stored solely to send a single launch announcement. We do not share or sell email addresses. You can unsubscribe with one click from that email.

Contact form

The contact form sends your message and email address to our support inbox. We retain the conversation as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable period after.

Purchases

Mac purchases are handled entirely by Apple via the Mac App Store. We see only what Apple sends through that channel — typically a receipt, no personal information. Windows and Linux purchases are handled by a third-party payment processor that acts as merchant of record. Their privacy policy applies to the transaction itself; we'll name and link to them here once that integration is finalized.

Your rights

If you've corresponded with us or signed up for the launch list, you can ask us at any time to show you what we have, correct it, or delete it. Email privacy@vellerune.com.

Changes

Material changes to this policy bump the effective date at the top of the page and are listed here, newest first.
